Post subject: Finally Broke 30 from the Surf

Thanks bass 40 for the post.
Started fishing 12:30 AM Monday the 26th. Three trucks by the inlet. No one fishing the beach. Dead low at 2:30 AM. 1 1/2 ft breakers on the bar with a decent trough. Main beach very steep. Started with a needlefish near the corner. Nothing. Moved east about 100 yards. Now about 1:30. Swithched to a Yozuri Darter. Fished slow. First cast 26" bass. Till almost 3:00 got 7 bass 25 to 27 inches and 2 4 lb blues. Decided to make 2 last casts. One straight out then one at 10 o'clock. Felt a bump, set the hook and it was off to the races. The fish started running east in the trough peeling off line. I walked down the beach about 200 to 300 feet to keep up. Finally fish tired out and brought it in on a small wave. I knew this fish had legs and was probably bigger than any I had in the surf, but was I surprised. Weighed the fish in for the On The Water Contest. Oh, baby !!!

Fished Mattituck 7-15 at 10:PM I caught a 7LB 14oz   blue on a  Yozuri darter. At midnight I tied into a bass that through the plug half way in, this big boy was striping line from the spool until the plug let go. The back hooks had scales on them when I brought it back in. Don G and Rich S were with me. So don't give up more fish are out there.       Steve K

Friday morning set the truck up to go to Montauk. Saturday morning and decided to check north shore with the east wind. First stop: Outgoing water with 1oz bucktail and slam rod is bent and fish is running. Bass 45”at 32lbs 5 oz. What a fish! I unhooked her and put her back in the water and watched her swim away to fight another day. 4 more bass after that and one was 12lbs. I kept for dinner and nailed a 37” Blue fish 14lbs 5oz. Nice fish! 12 noon till 3. Steve K

9/25/09 Caught 3 albies at Shinnicock east one 8 lbs, 2 at 7 lbs. Albies on tons of anchovies all day. Fly guys did great. Jim W

Jim I was there Tuesday and the albies were there also. I was bucktailing for bass but came up empty. Nice size fish you had must have been fun.   Steve K

I am not good at catching those speedsters. What lures and how? Did you fish on the jetty? Thanks. Chet Z

Hey guys! I was there on Saturday and Sunday. Your right chet they are speedsters. The fly guys were using a green and white teaser. I was using a really small deadly dick. Saw a few taken. I myself couldn't buy one. John
